This Request for Information (RFI) seeks information that will help the Ministry for the Environment to understand more about the NZ ETS Managed Auction Service (MAS) market and the current services available.
The New Zealand Emissions Trading Scheme (NZ ETS) is the Government’s main tool for reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The NZ ETS requires business to surrender one ‘emissions unit’ (known as an NZU) to the Government for each one tonne of emissions they emit. The Government operates regular ETS auctions to align the supply of NZUs with New Zealand’s emission reduction targets. The Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) maintains the register of all NZUs – the New Zealand Emissions Trading Register (or NZETR).
While the Ministry has been conducting secondary research on the available options in the marketplace, this RFI represents an opportunity to learn in greater detail about the capabilities of different solutions available from the industry. The result of the research conducted through this RFI will support further development.
