The Averys Stopbank marks one of the first major construction components of the Westport Flood Protection Scheme and serves a critical role in intercepting overflow into Westport. Originally prioritised under the “quick wins” due to its risk reduction potential, this section is vital not only for hydraulic performance but also as a benchmark for the scheme’s wider delivery success. Its timely and high-quality construction will set the precedent for public confidence, community backing, and further funding progression.
This bund is located on publicly owned land; therefore, maintaining a cooperative and respectful working relationship with the neighbouring landowners is essential. All activities must be conducted with minimal disruption to farming operations, and the site must be returned in a clean, free-draining condition, free of rocks and debris, and with a good grass establishment following construction.
