4916-24/25 Improving the Future of Waitarakao / Washdyke Lagoon

CRC is seeking to procure an efficient and innovative provider with strong ecological, hydrological, and natural hazard knowledge, to develop a series of options to adapt the key elements of the form and function of Waitarakao lagoon in ways that enable us to achieve our values and enhance the health of the lagoon ecosystem.

Our Waitarakao Catchment Strategy is a project between four partners Environment Canterbury, Arowhenua Rununga (via Aoraki Environmental Consultancy Ltd), Department of Conservation and Timaru District Council and the community. Environment Canterbury also have a partnership with Ngai Tahu/Arowhenua Rununga across all workstreams. Successful suppliers will work directly with ECan and AEC on this project and indirectly with the other partners as required.

Successful suppliers will be expected to meet at the beginning of the project with ECan and AEC to discuss project engagement and expectations thereafter (perhaps this could occur at Waitarakao). This meeting will be preceded by (or combined with) a briefing from our project representatives on the broader context of this project and other related activities.

We require options developed to be feasible, practical and flexible in how they can be implemented regarding time, resources, and investment. The options will form the basis of how the lagoon is setup and managed in future, thereby enabling more detailed restoration activities to occur.
