751-24-553-PS Albany Highway Walking & Cycling Improvements – SSBC & Preliminary Design

This procurement aims to secure the professional services required to deliver the Single Stage Business
Case (SSBC) for the proposed Albany Highway Walking and Cycling Improvements project. The project will
determine the most appropriate option to deliver the new walking and cycling infrastructure along Albany
Highway, between Glenfield Road and Bush Road, Albany.

This section of Albany Highway has no dedicated walking and cycling facilities. For the route, cycling
accounts for less than 1% of mode share, but cycle related crashes account for 5.4% of reported crashes.
By providing safe cycle and walking facilities, this critical gap in the cycle and micromobility strategic
network will be eliminated.

The Auckland cycle model predicts a significant increase in daily cycle trips along Albany Highway, from
170 to 560, with the provision of safe cycle facilities. The benefits of the project extend to residential areas
by providing new and direct connections between Albany and Glenfield town centres, and opening up
convenient access to schools.
