New Zealand Transport Agency (Waka Kotahi)

9392 : Safety Camera Baseline Speed Data Collection

The key objective of this upcoming procurement opportunity is for Waka Kotahi to enter into contractual arrangements with a capable supplier, who can provide nationwide speed and traffic baseline data collection suitable as input for approximately 50 safety camera site selection assessments and evaluations. Baseline speed data collection will run from January 2024 to June 2024.

The two key services and technologies sought are:

Spot speeds. Provision of equipment and services of automatic vehicle detection technology systems that enable presence detection, traffic counting, speed monitoring, axle count, date/time stamp, and direction of travel to capture and provide baseline survey data. Though pneumatic rubber tubes are currently used, newer/ better technologies will be encouraged e.g. magnetometer sensors.

Point to point average speed of individual vehicles. Use automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) cameras or other technology to capture vehicle license plate information associated with baseline survey data so that baselines can be established for average speed (point to point) safety cameras.

The Request for Proposals are planned for GETS advertising on 26 October 2023.
