EECA would like to support the introduction of very high temperature heat pumps over 100°C in New Zealand to accelerate the decarbonisation of hard-to-abate processes.
Currently there are limited electrification options for industrial processes that require heat over 100 °C. In the last few years very high-temperature hot water and steam heat pump technology have been adopted internationally but this technology is yet to be deployed in New Zealand.
We intend to seek interest in very high temperature heat pumps projects from New Zealand based businesses who currently use fossil fuels to produce heating greater than 100 °C (predominantly large industrial, dairy, meat, and food and beverage manufacturing businesses) by issuing a Request for Proposals (RFP) in late October 2024.
To best support the market, we wish to alert manufacturers and suppliers of very high temperature heat pumps (over 100°C) who may have the ability to supply, support installation and commissioning into New Zealand. We encourage you to connect with New Zealand customers to discuss requirements for the RFP application.
No direct response is required to EECA with this notice, but we encourage manufacturers and suppliers to talk with New Zealand-based customers to help support strong project applications.
