Chief Executive Recruitment

The Dunedin City Council (DCC) invites Expressions of Interest (EOI) from suitably qualified and experienced recruitment providers to lead the sourcing, assessment, and selection process for the appointment of our next Chief Executive.
As a local authority, the appointment of a Chief Executive is governed by Section 42 of the Local Government Act 2002 (LGA 2002) and clauses 33 and 34 of Schedule 7 of the LGA 2002.

DCC would like to have a new Chief Executive appointed and starting in October 2026.

This EOI seeks to identify recruitment providers with a strong track record in executive appointments, ideally in a local government context. Providers must have an understanding of the local government or public sector operating environment, and the capability to support the elected Council through a high quality, confidential, and legislatively compliant process, which results in suitable high calibre candidates.
