Request for Proposal for the Climate Ready Communities Project

Auckland Council is seeking a qualified Lead Provider to prototype the Climate Ready Communities programme – a new, community‑centred approach that helps local groups build understanding, capability, and confidence to take climate adaptation action.
This prototype will test and refine a Learn → Plan → Do model that supports 8–10 community “champion” organisations across Tāmaki Makaurau. Through light‑touch training, mentoring, practical tools, and facilitated peer learning, the programme aims to make climate adaptation accessible, achievable, and grounded in everyday community realities. The Lead Provider will coordinate delivery, subcontract climate‑adaptation expertise, and work closely with Council to ensure resources and methods are practical, culturally appropriate, and co‑designed with participating groups.

The programme fills a critical gap between self‑directed resources and intensive adaptation planning by offering structured, supported engagement that builds long‑term community resilience. This opportunity is not focused on emergency response or technical planning; rather, it is about empowering communities, strengthening local leadership, and enabling simple, meaningful adaptation actions that can be scaled in future programme phases.

The prototype provides a unique chance to shape a new Council‑backed initiative, collaborate with diverse communities, and influence how climate adaptation is supported region‑wide.
