Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) is a basic research tool to characterize materials including polymers, foods, biologicals, organic chemicals, inorganic materials and pharmaceuticals. The current DSC used by the Food & Bioproducts team based at our Lincoln campus is over 10 years old and coming to the end of its life. The DSC is one of the most frequently used instruments in the Food Innovation group, however the instrument no longer functions as required due to parts and software obsolescence, becoming increasingly unreliable and not fit for purpose. The current DSC requires replacement so that materials characterization capabilities are maintained.
