On 28 November 2022, the Government announced it will provide a $4,000 subsidy for small retail businesses that want a fog cannon installed (Fog Cannon Subsidy Scheme (FCSS)).
The Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment is seeking to establish a register of providers (FCSS Panel) of fog cannons and related services (Providers).
The subsidy will be open to small retail businesses in New Zealand, who meet the eligibility criteria and who want a fog cannon installed (Eligible Retailers), with the subsidy (up to a total of $4,000 per outlet) paid to the Provider (as selected by the Eligible Retailer) and the Eligible Retailers will be required to pay the balance (if any) to the Provider.
We anticipate that Providers who meet the necessary criteria will be contracted and onboarded from January 2023, however Providers can register and be appointed on an ongoing basis while the subsidy is available.
It is planned for the FCSS to be operational from 1 February 2023.
