Post-border National surveillance programmes increase our knowledge about distribution and population prevalence of organisms of interest and contribute to understanding the likelihood of a successful eradication or population control programme. The earlier an exotic pest or disease is detected, the more likely a control programme is to be successful, therefore, reducing impacts on environmental, socio-cultural, and economic values.
This project is to determine high risk sites and survey methodologies to inform the development of a targeted surveillance programme for new-to-New Zealand freshwater species.
