Front of Whare - Emergency Department (ED) - Wellington Regional Hospital

Te Whatu Ora Health New Zealand Capital, Coast and Hutt Valley District (HNZ CCHV) is in the process of developing a fit-for-purpose Emergency Department (ED) for Wellington Regional Hospital.

The investment is motivated by a recognition that the change and funding are needed to transition to a robust and equitable public health system in the Wellington Region.

The project aligns with the Government priorities for the health and disability system, as described in the Ministry of Health’s Strategic intentions 2021 to 2025:

Improving child wellbeing: The investment proposal ensures that children and whānau have access to fit-for-purpose emergency health care in times of crisis.
Improving mental health: Currently, ED is reporting delays in care, people waiting in corridors and a lack of single occupancy/single-gender spaces.

The procurement strategy is to invite experienced main contractors to submit a tender to be initially appointed as the Preferred Contractor for the delivery of the ECI Agreement,
with an opportunity for the subsequent award of the Construction Contract subject to confirmation of the contract price (on a fixed price basis), amongst other matters, following completion of the ECI process.
