Accident Compensation Corporation

General update on Kaupapa Māori solutions

We’re developing solutions to protect the wellbeing of whānau and provide them with greater choice in accessing health services when they are injured. We understand that to do better for Māori we need to do things differently and localised approaches to service design and delivery are best to meet the specific needs of haukāinga (local people) and empower them to participate fully in their hauora (health) and oranga (wellbeing).

We're seeking to design:
• kaupapa Māori prevention initiatives with a focus on the primary prevention of sexual violence through the promotion of mana-enhancing and tapu-enriched relationships
• kaupapa Māori health services for whānau when they are injured, with a focus on treatment and rehabilitation for kiritaki (clients) with complex injuries and a high level of need (including, but not limited to, serious injuries and sexual violence.

We want to partner with kaupapa Māori specialists to design new ACC solutions that enable whānau to live well and, if injured, to access services that are culturally safe and appropriate, as defined by Māori. Once the design of these solutions is approved, we’ll seek kaupapa Māori providers to deliver the initiatives and services.

The procurement
We are commissioning a panel of kaupapa Māori specialists to design these initiatives and services in 12 rohe (regions) across Aotearoa. They will bring the mātauranga (knowledge) and strong community connections needed to guide the service design. Panels will work with iwi, ACC kiritaki and whānau to ensure these services meet local needs.

The procurement will be run in four stages (known as tranches) and all opportunities will be openly advertised on GETS. Please refer to the attached map that shows the order we’re engaging across the motu.

Tranche 1: Design phase is underway for Kaupapa Māori health services only in Tainui waka. Injury prevention initiatives to be determined later.
Tranche 2: Design phase is underway for health services and injury prevention initiatives in Te Tai Tokerau and Tāmaki Makaurau.
Tranche 3 and 4: We’ll share more information on future procurement opportunities through this notice.
