Greater Christchurch Future Bus Services Procurement

Canterbury Regional Council is in the process of planning for our Future Bus Services Contract Procurement in Greater Christchurch. The current PTOM bus partnering contracts commenced in 2020 and all expire concurrently in November 2029.

We would like to invite wider market participants to take part in market engagement to inform the Future Bus Services Contracts, inclusive of incumbent operators (PTOs), PTOs who may be looking to enter the Canterbury market, and any industry bodies and affected trade unions.

We expect to be going to market in early to mid-2027 to procure the entirety of the Greater Christchurch bus network. We are open to tailoring a procurement process that aligns with market interest, capacity and capability. This RFI provides an opportunity for the market to provide feedback and shape the upcoming procurement and contracts that we will adopt for the procurement of the next generation bus contracts in Greater Christchurch.
