Huka Falls is one of the Department's most visited sites, attracting up to one million visitors annually. The current pathways, barriers, and signage are over 25 years old. They do not meet current standards and fail to provide an appropriate visitor experience, posing safety and reputation risks.
This procurement is aimed at addressing visitor safety relating to the barriers. It will also improve their design to reduce maintenance costs and improve aesthetics. Approximately 360m of steel barriers require modification or replacement. An additional 60m section is required to protect visitors from an identified fall risk next to the car park.
