Māori Health Authority - Te Aka Whai Ora

Kaupapa Māori Prevention and Minimisation of Gambling Harm Services

Te Aka Whai Ora, Te Whatu Ora - Health New Zealand and Manatū Hauora - Ministry of Health are working in partnership to implement the Strategy to Prevent and Minimise Gambling Harm 2022–2025.
This FPO is to advise that Te Aka Whai Ora is planning to procure services for the following two categories of service for the period 2023-2027.
1. Public Health Services – services that empower people and communities to reduce gambling-related harm through health promotion approaches such as community engagement and action, healthy policy development and implementation of safe gambling environments. This includes services and approaches specifically developed for Māori.

2. Intervention Services – services that support people who are experiencing gambling harm. These services will include intervention services that will deliver kaupapa Māori models of care available to all people who wish to access these services. Services will be tailored to prioritise the needs of Māori with all populations able to utilise Te Aka Whai Ora funded services.

We are committed to working towards better outcomes for whānau, hapu, hāpori and iwi and that services are not predetermined. Therefore, we are seeking to invite existing hauora partners and interested hauora partners to wānanga on the pathway forward, to ensure we achieve national coverage along with services that are accessible for whānau and tangata whaiora.

We will invite hauora partners to wānanga in the next few months, to determine next steps together on this journey.
New services are set to commence on 1 January 2024.
