In August 2024, the Government announced a Four-Point Action Plan to tackle maths and pāngarau achievement in response to declining student achievement.
In October 2024 the Ministry appointed suppliers to provide maths resources to year 0-8 students. Initially, these resources were seen as a pragmatic short-term two-year solution and was designed to be supplementary supports as schools implemented the refreshed Maths curriculum. In March 2025, the Minister of Education announced that “maths resources will be Ministry-funded (free for schools) every year.”
As a result of this announcement the Ministry will be expanding the supply of Ministry-funded maths resources for 2027 to 2029 (inclusive). The continued purpose of Ministry-funded Maths resources is to function as a supplementary support for schools, as they implement the refreshed Maths curriculum.
This RFP relates to the purchase of maths resource packages for 2027 to 2029 (inclusive) and may include all, or a combination of the following:
• Printed student workbooks (write-in)
• Printed student textbooks/coursebooks
• Printed teacher textbooks/coursebooks
• Student and teacher digital licenses providing access to digital learning resources including eBooks
• Other resources e.g. manipulatives
