Tender Summary – Specialised Teaching Space Fit‑out
2.1 Background
The existing teaching kitchen space has been assessed as no longer fit for purpose and presents both functional and safety challenges for effective teaching delivery. Current issues include insufficient space, fragmented room layout preventing effective supervision, and the absence of a dedicated teacher demonstration area.
Several health and safety concerns have also been identified, particularly around unsafe appliance use due to limited bench space, poorly positioned power outlets, raised ovens with unsuitable work surfaces, and appliances being required to operate too close to water sources. The lack of seating within the kitchen space also limits effective use of teaching time, with students leaving the area during downtime.
The project is being delivered with the following consultants:

2.2 Required Solution (Contract Works)
The Contract Works seek to deliver a fully integrated, safe, and flexible teaching environment capable of supporting both practical and theory-based learning. The completed solution must include:

Increased number of student work units within a single cohesive space
Adequate bench space at each unit to allow safe appliance operation
Under‑bench microwaves to maximise usable bench space
Reconfigured hob layouts with increased spacing, including an additional portable induction cooktop per student station
Induction cooking technology for improved safety and responsiveness
Seating provided at all student stations to enable dual‑use for theory instruction and prevent unnecessary movement between rooms
Tables designed without under‑bench shelving to allow legroom, with stools capable of being hung for cleaning
A dedicated teacher unit with sufficient space for demonstrations
Commercial oven or domestic double oven located behind the teacher station
Four‑burner hob configuration at the teacher unit
Relocation of the dishwasher to the teacher unit
Open‑front storage at the teacher unit for accessible equipment storage
Secure pantry space large enough to house both a fridge and freezer
A large shared workspace or dual‑purpose kai table
Ceiling‑mounted airer located above the under‑bench laundry area
