Māori Arts Internships Programme - Registration of Interest

The Arts Council of New Zealand Toi Aotearoa (Creative New Zealand/ CNZ) is looking for a Māori-led arts organisation to develop, deliver and report on a high-quality Māori Arts Internships Programme for a 12-month period during 2023-2024.

The primary aim of the programme is to provide opportunities for Māori arts practitioners to increase their arts management skills and experience. The initiative also aims to address skill-gaps and opportunities that have been identified through CNZ’s Te Hā o ngā Toi Māori Strategy (2019-2024) and the Māori Arts Review 2012.

The Māori Arts Internships Programme will:
a) Provide a structured programme of training for five emerging Māori arts practitioners to build their skills and arts and cultural sector knowledge, experience and networks through the internships.
b) The programme aims to develop future Māori arts managers, professionals and producers, to support the Māori arts infrastructure and to establish pathways for emerging Māori practitioners who wish to embark on a career in the arts.
c) Support a more inclusive and culturally competent arts and cultural sector for Aotearoa New Zealand.
d) Support more regional Māori arts development opportunities.
e) Provide a placement for a minimum of twenty weeks per intern at one or multiple arts organisations or cultural institutions.
f) Adhere to the recommended Minimum Standards for Creative New Zealand supported Internships.

The objectives of the Māori Arts Internships Programme are to:
• address infrastructure gaps in Māori arts leadership and provide opportunities in arts management and administration through practical work experience;
• empower a new generation of Māori arts leadership;
• support sustainable employment in the arts and cultural sector;
• diversify and strengthen Aotearoa New Zealand’s broader arts and cultural sector.

The budget allocated to this programme is $173,782 excluding GST.

CNZ is adopting a two-stage process to award a contract to a suitable Supplier to develop, deliver and report on a high-quality Māori Arts Internships Programme.

In this first stage we will receive and evaluate Registrations of Interest (ROI) from parties that are interested in developing and delivering the Māori Arts Internships Programme (Internships Programme) under a contract with Creative New Zealand.
