The Department of Conservation (DOC) established a panel of suppliers to provide biodiversity monitoring services in 2020. These services, primarily small mammal monitoring using tracking tunnels, and possum monitoring using a variety of techniques, are an important success indicator for the National Predator Control Programme (NPCP). NPCP is DOC's successful predator control programme. This programme is aimed at protecting our most at-risk native animals. Native species are fighting for survival due to introduced predators such as rats, stoats and possums. Without active protection, we risk losing our unique natural heritage and taonga.
The Director General of DOC is seeking proposals to identify additional suppliers to join the Monitoring Services Panel and supply the services required.
