National Publishing Internships Programme - Registration of Interest

The Arts Council of New Zealand Toi Aotearoa (Creative New Zealand) is looking for an arts organisation or organisation with appropriate knowledge of the literary and publishing sector in Aotearoa to develop, deliver and report on a high-quality National Publishing Internships Programme, in partnership with Whitireia, for a 12-month period during 2023-2024.

The Publishing Internships Programme will:
a) provide a structured programme of training for Whitireia immediate graduates of the Graduate Diploma in Publishing (Applied) to build their skills in publishing, experience and networks through an intern placement within a New Zealand publisher host organisation
b) provide support, relevant training, information and advice to host organisations
c) increase the numbers of new entrants’ roles and build career sustainability in the publishing sector
d) support a more inclusive and culturally competent publishing sector for Aotearoa New Zealand
e) support more employment opportunities for new entrants’ publishers who identify as Māori
f) adhere to the recommended Minimum Standards for Creative New Zealand supported Internships.

The objective of the National Publishing Internships Programme is to offer a structured programme of mentoring for interns, which offers mutual benefit to them and their employers.

A total of three internships are offered to Whitireia immediate graduates of the Graduate Diploma in Publishing (Applied), with one of these places offered to a graduate who identifies as Māori. The Graduate Diploma is the only full-time training course for publishing in New Zealand developed and run in partnership with the industry.

For this internships programme, host organisations are expected to be New Zealand publishers.

The budget allocated to this programme is $67,784 excluding GST.
