National Telehealth Services

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is currently reviewing the provision of National Telehealth Services (NTS) and related requirements with a view to establishing updated contract(s) for defined requirements.
With technology advances, changing needs and consistently increasing demand, it is now considered an appropriate time to review telehealth services and develop an up-to-date plan to inform services to be provided under contractual arrangements.
An initial findings report is intended to be completed by September 2024 with a final report due in December 2024. The review covers the current NTS which includes Healthline, mental health and addictions services and other services under contract that are due to expire in 2025. The focus will be on primary care and community telehealth services funded by Health NZ and associated agencies but excludes hospital and specialist telehealth services except as they overlap with primary or urgent care.
Decisions around the final procurement approach will be made in December 2024.
Potential providers are encouraged to:
• Participate in relevant elements of the review process;.
• Provide input to sourcing processes; and
• Participate in future sourcing processes.
Health NZ wants provider input to the review and as such will be:
• Scheduling provider briefings from time to time over the next few months.
• Inviting providers to discuss issues, processes and deliverables as they apply to the NTS.
• Arranging time to talk to providers that responded to this FPO.
To indicate your interest in being part of this process, please email contact details to harry.lotz@nzhp.health.nz where you may briefly highlight:
• What value you consider you can add to the review.
• Any timeline or resource implications from your perspective.
• Your area of interest in relation to telehealth service delivery and/or telehealth service users.
Health NZ is expecting short email replies only (any response should be limited to one or 2 pages) especially as no selection is being made in this phase of the project.
As a minimum, contact details only need to be provided. All registered providers will receive invites to any briefings or discussions as appropriate. Additionally, you will be invited to participate in any resulting procurement process. Note that no provider will be disqualified from participating in any future open procurement approach for NTS if they do not register for this FPO.
