This request relates to the requirement for New Zealand Police to provide a Near Infrared Spectroscopy Handheld Drug Scanning Device capability that operates effectively and efficiently for frontline staff.
New Zealand Police formally adopted a Near Infrared Spectroscopy Handheld Drug Scanning Device capability in 2022. The current capability is employed by frontline staff and is used to identify unknown substances. This capability allows our frontline to make informed evidence-based decisions in real-time, and that promotes staff safety and wellbeing by mitigating the need to manually handle unknown substance found through routine policing activities. New Zealand Police are seeking information to determine comparable solutions that will perform effectively and efficiently within our operating environment.
