Council provides residential and light commercial businesses an option to dispose of greenwaste to the Nelson Waste Recovery Centre (NWRC). In line with the Nelson Waste Plan (NWP) this material must not be disposed of to landfill, so is packed into bins to be delivered to a site for processing. Therefore, council requires an entity to accept this material and process it in a manner consistent with the principles and polices of council.
Council requires an entity that will accept the greenwaste delivered from the NWRC at a per-tonne rate and then take full responsibility and ownership for the material from the point of acceptance. Council also require that the entity can consistently prove that the material is processed in line with council’s plans and polices. This includes policies and plans related to Health and Safety, greenhouse emissions, and environmental standards.
