Tairawhiti District Health Board

Outsourced Physiotherapy Outpatient Service

The aim is to establish a clinical network of physiotherapy providers, to provide timely access to Te Whatu Ora Tairāwhiti Outpatient Physiotherapy. This involves predominately musculoskeletal impairments, which require access to physiotherapy services without increasing further inequities. Whilst the primary focus is musculoskeletal impairments, there is scope to extend the model to other areas for example, but not limited to group exercise and education classes and back care following orthopaedic assessment.

The service model would focus on preventive, early rehabilitation, and self-management, with a wider health and well-being focus, increasing rural access and accessibility for our Māori and vulnerable populations.

The initial scope is for Te Whatu Ora Tairāwhiti Physiotherapy services to redirect the referral to the appropriate physiotherapy provider within their locality. Te Whatu Ora Tairāwhiti will endeavour to take a balanced approach to re-directing referrals amongst the providers and services will remain free of charge to the patient.

A suitable Supplier would provide physiotherapy assessment and treatment to patients during periods of short staffing due to planned and unplanned leave of staff as well as vacancies.
