Parking Wayfinding - Electronic Variable Message Signs (VMS)

The Dunedin City Council (DCC), as part of the Shaping Future Dunedin Transport (SFDT) programme, want to improve wayfinding for parking in the central city.

The DCC wants to partner with a supplier to provide two Electronic Variable Messaging Signs (VMS) on State Highway 1. These signs will have the ability to show the real time parking availability of at least four off-street carparks, and potential to be used for emergency situations such as civil defence events.

As the signs are proposed to be installed on State Highway 1, it is essential that the signs have robust technical specifications and high spec display visible to 50km/h traffic.

The signs must have a display screen that allows free text, can display at least four carparks, and integrate with DCC systems to retrieve data.

The supplier will be required to liaise with DCC’s nominated contractor for installation of the signs in the designated locations.

Potential Future Opportunity: Subject to funding availability and approval, the DCC may also install smaller parking availability signs showing the availability of DCC controlled off-street parking sites in the central city.
