Massey University

Procurement for a Hyperspectral Imaging Sensor

Massey University (Massey) is a top-tier and innovative research and teaching university supporting cutting-edge research programs and well recognised degree programmes. The School of Agriculture and Environment requires a hyperspectral sensing to replace and complement the existing sensor with a newer compact, hyperspectral sensing cover completely or partially within the 350-2500 nm spectral range. The sensor will be used in both lab and airborne applications to provide new image data for research projects and data for undergraduate and post-graduate teaching. Acquisition of this new equipment will maintain our ability to support both fundamental and applied research as well as undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in the broader fields of engineering, agriculture, Earth, and environmental sciences.

At the School of Agriculture and Environment (Manawatu campus), we require an imaging hyperspectral sensor to be able to conduct research and to support undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in agriculture, geology, soil, and environmental sciences. An AisaFENIX hyperspectral sensor has been used since 2014 to develop new application of hyperspectral remote sensing. Our School would like to maintain and expand this capability by purchasing a new hyperspectral sensor that can be used in both ground/lab and airborne settings. The lab application includes soil, rock, and plant scanning while the airborne image collection is focused on Agricultural, Earth and Environmental applications.

This procurement relates to the purchase, delivery, installation, and commissioning of a hyperspectral sensor, including airborne mounting, lab-based scanning equipment (or combability with existing resources). Currently, we operate an AisaFENIX (with an OxTS Survey+ IMU system) and FX10 sensors manufactured by Specim Ltd, Finland. The new sensor should be covering the similar technical specifications and “functionality” to support our ongoing research and teaching efforts. The new hyperspectral sensor will be used by staff, undergraduate and postgraduate students for research and teaching purposes.
