Professional Services for the Design of Grays, Pauariki and Huiarua (Mata) Bridges

Cyclone Gabrielle struck the Gisborne Tairāwhiti region in February 2023, followed by a further rain event in June 2023 (the North Island Severe Weather Events), causing significant and widespread damage to bridge and road infrastructure, including a multitude of slips and dropouts.

The programme of works has now transitioned from emergency-based works to a recovery and rebuild phase. GDC has current and future work programmes planned for additional recovery and rebuild works over the next three-year period, in accordance with GDC’s Long-Term Plan (together the Recovery Remediation Work Programmes).

One of the work programmes, the Bridge Rebuild Programme, is for the re-build of three bridges which are due to commence construction around the fourth quarter of 2025.
This procurement relates to the provision of the detailed design of the following three bridges:
- Huiarua (Mata) Bridge (Mata Road Upper)
- Pauariki Bridge (Hikuwai Road)
- Grays Bridge (Bruce Road)
