This procurement relates to the research services required to develop and independently test a hot water treatment system on a representative number of ballast boats (i.e., tanks and ballast bags) and boats with inboard engines.
A pilot trial in late 2024 included the development of a hot water treatment system for aquatic pests, in partnership with the Waikato Regional Council. The treatment, having been trialled on hard tank boat ballasts, requires testing on the full range of ballast boat configurations. The trial also informed the development of the draft operational specifications which are to be finalised.
This project is to inform the operational specifications and establishment of a verified methodology, tested on a full range of ballast boat configurations, for a hot water treatment application in New Zealand. The project aims to ensure all major boat pipework, tank and inboard engine configurations can be treated without causing damage
