S2408 - Automated Fluoride Day Tank System for Stratford Water Treatment Plant

Stratford District Council is seeking proposals from qualified contractors for the design, construction, and installation of an automated fluoride day tank system in accordance with the Water New Zealand Good Practice Guideline for Fluoridation of Water Supplies.

In 2024, Water New Zealand introduced this Good Practice Guideline, which identifies several recommendations that are not currently in place at the Stratford Water Treatment Plant. While current design and space constraints make it impossible to meet all guidelines, there is an unacceptable residual risk relating to the possibility of a fluoride overdose during water treatment. The installation of a fluoride day tank has been identified as a critical improvement to mitigate the risk and protect Stratford Drinking Water Supply customers.
