SH26 Onetai Stream Bridge Replacement - NOI

This Notice of Information (NOI) is to advise that the Request for Tender which was intended to be advertised in late August 2023 has been deferred to mid-late September in order to comply with resource consent conditions. The contract period is anticipated to take 60 Working Days, with the possession of site date to be nominated by the Contractor and a due date for completion by the end of April 2024.

This NOI is provided as an early indication only of the project scope and will not form part of any future tender documents or contract documents.

Onetai Stream Bridge (BSN841) is located approximately 14km north of Paeroa and carries SH26 over Onetai Stream. The contract is for the replacement of the existing 9m long bridge comprising of a steel girder and nail laminated timber deck. The new bridge will be a single-span timber superstructure comprising glulam girders and a plywood bridge deck, and supported on new precast concrete shallow foundations and mechanically stabilised embankments. New instream scour protection works are required together with ancillary works.

The new timber superstructure is viewed by Waka Kotahi as a prototype solution for sustainable replacement of short-span vehicle bridges.

Key points are -
1. The SH26 Onetai Stream Bridge Replacement is anticipated to cost in the order of $2,300,000.
2. Contractors must be pre-qualified to “Bridge Construction – Level A (3A)”.
3. Waka Kotahi have mandated timber for the superstructure.
4. The works are intended to utilise a full bridge closure.
