Scott Base Redevelopment Project - Commercial and Risk Manager RFP

The redevelopment of Scott Base is Antarctica New Zealand’s largest and most complex project ever undertaken. The aim of the project is to ensure New Zealand has safe, fit-for-purpose, and sustainable infrastructure that safeguards its continuous presence in Antarctica, enables its world-leading scientific research programme, and strengthens engagement with the Antarctic Treaty System.

The existing base will be redeveloped (new and refurbishment) to provide modern facilities to support on-ice operations. The project also includes the replacement of the existing Ross Island Wind Energy system with new turbines and energy storage.

The Scott Base Redevelopment Project Director requires experienced consultant to support ongoing assessment of the health of key aspects of the project throughout its life-cycle to identify any potential risks,
and recommend areas for improvement.

The commercial and risk management consultant (Respondent to this RFP) will have a broad range of capabilities to be able assess and respond to the challenges faced by a major construction project with complex logistics requirements.

Providing critical liaison between the panel of expert consultants and the Project Director, the commercial and risk management consultant will help ensure that the best supplier is selected for each part of the project and that risks are identified and managed appropriately.

We are looking for a consultant lead who will ‘embed’ with the client and work closely with the Project Director on a day-to-day basis. We are seeking very experienced generalist practitioners who will complement the Project Director’s own skills.
