South Taranaki District Council (STDC) propose to replace water main running through Fairfield and Beach Roads. The existing 50 mm uPVC is in poor condition with several breakages and a new water main of 63 OD PE needs to be installed as it is more cost-effective to replace the old pipe than to repair it. The existing 50mm uPVC pipes will be disconnected and left in their existing location. The open trench and under boring methods will be used in laying the new water main.
Furthermore, the contractor shall also supply all fittings require for the same side and opposite lateral service l connection to existing property kits etc. as detailed on the drawings and listed in the Schedule of Quantities. To minimize surface disruption and reduce environmental impact, service pipe connections should be installed using techniques such as Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD), Microtunneling, Auger Boring, or other approved alternatives. These methods provide more sustainable and less invasive solutions compared to traditional open trenching, ensuring minimal disturbance to the environment and surrounding infrastructure.
