Supply of anti-ligature furniture

Health New Zealand - MidCentral is building a new Acute Mental Health Unit at Palmerston North Hospital (the AMHU). It will be fitted out with a range of anti-ligature furniture for spaces tāngata whai ora live and access.

MidCentral will shortly be issuing an invitation to quote on its anti-ligature furniture requirements for the AMHU. As part of that process, MidCentral will host a site visit for interested suppliers to better understand the AMHU spaces and our requirements.

This NOI is intended to provide advance notice of the arrangements for the site visit at Palmerston North Hospital on 20 February. See Site Visit Information below. Further details about the site visit will be provided in the tender documents to be released shortly on GETS. Please ensure you sibscribe to this Notice to access detailed information about the site visit and any updates.

Overview of our requirements:

Anti-ligature furniture refers to specialist furniture designed to either prevent a ligature from being attached to it, or to collapse or breakaway under load. MidCentral requires a range of anti-ligature furniture items that:
• enable the room in which it is placed, to provide a safe environment, supporting a person’s dignity and comfort, without posing a risk to the person or staff
• provide functional and durable performance, helping clinical staff to create a therapeutic environment for their patients while reducing the risk of self-harm.

The range of furniture required for the AMHU will be set out in the tender documents, and will include a variety of:
• beds and mattresses,
• chairs, seats, stools and benches,
• couches and sofas, and
• tables (dining, conference and coffee).

All Furniture items must be supplied and installed by mid July 2025.
